Legion of Excellence

In 1985, the AAF District 3 board felt that participation by former leaders provided continuity and invaluable leadership training to incoming district officers and club leaders, and as such, chose to recognize contributions to and involvement in D3 activities over a long period of time by dedicated individuals. It is in that spirit, along with inspiration from the first two honorees, that the Legion of Excellence Award was born.

The first awards were presented to Al Scroggins (Columbia Ad Club) and Gordon LaGarde (Ad Fed of the Roanoke Valley) at the 1985 Spring Conference in Norfolk. Both men were retiring from their professional careers that year and were deemed worthy of special recognition for their many years of distinguished service to District 3.
